This building was completed in the year 1958. In the same year All India Radio shifted from its old building at 1, Garstin Place, Kolkata, to this new building. The architechture is an excellent systhesis of Buddhist and Hindu Temple architechture. Akashvani Bhavan is right in front of the famous Eden Gardens on the West, on the North East is Raj Bhavan (Governer's House), on the North is the State Assembly House & on the East is the famous Octorloney Monument. Great performers both national & international have performed here. And All India Radio Kolkata have broacast those 'Live' & recorded performances for it's innumerable listeners. There are fourteen studios plus three Fm Stereo studios. The studio equipments are very sophisticated and are constantly updated keeping up with the modern trends in broadcasting.
